How big is your tank? Silver Dollars aren't small fish, so a proper school (at least 5 of them) should be in upwards of a 40 gallon tank... They also need cover in the form of plants and wood to avoid too much stress. Providing them sufficient numbers, space, and cover should alleviate the aggression (which should NOT be happening to the point that one hides).

Know that little copper stripe around the rim of the coin? If it has that, it's not 90% silver. Quarters 1964 and older have 90% silver. Good luck in your collecting.

They are worth 7 to 8 times face for the silver content. If they have mint marks and are not in to bad of condition they may be worth a little more. The mint mark if any is below the wreath near the bottom. Silver keeps going up and down but mostly up so it would be wise to put them away for a while.

If in low grades dealers will pay 7 to 8 times face for the silver in it. In mint state 63 it only trends for $9 and trends prices usually are a little on the high side, of what is considered an average retail. Of course a dealer would pay 40 to 50 percent less if the coin graded that high. It is better to hold onto it, for silver is going up and more collectors are collecting quarters thanks to the state quarters.

In silver weight, it is worth 9 times it's value, so about $2 to $2.25.
If it is in excellent un-circulated condition with no wear, it is worth about $12 to $15.

Just a note to add to BD in NM, dealers bought up the small bags made large bags and found they could make a buck by selling them as bullion. Instead of melting the coins the dealers also knew that silver went up and down so kept them till it went up and resold them. This is not coin collecting but investing.

The reason some one gave you silver value is most world coins are worth just that in circulated grades and some in mint state. That is they have no collector value. Silver is far from a set market value. Now for your coin it should have the Aztec Cuauhtemoc on one side and the seal of Mexico on the other. It is .900 silver and total weight is 30.00 grams. The actual silver weight is .8681 oz. troy. There are two of this type 1947 which is the scarer date and 1948 which has a mintage of 26,740,000. It sells for around $14-$15 in mint state. More if in real high grade mint state add a few more dollars. Dealers pay at least 40% less. Values from ads in WCN
