Question by annw: Are some mercury dimes worth more than others?
I have a BIG bag of mercury dimes that I want to sell. Should I just roll them or should I sort them first?

Yes. Older ones are worth more (they started making them in 1916.) Also, many of them have defects from minting such as missing details, particularly on the fasces on the reverse, or one date stamped over another. Before you sell them off, take them to a dealer and have them appraised. Some can be worth a lot of money.

Rolled you will get 10 cents each .

At a coin dealer you would get much more but do not bother rolling them because they need to see dates and condition .

How did you come to have a bag of mercury dimes and No clue as to what they really are ?

Are they ever. A 16 d is worth darn near a fortune. It is very sought after. Also 21 d and 21 are sought after but not nearly so much as the 16 d. The value of the dimes is dependent on their condition. Ones that are not worn are worth considerably more than ones that are. The most common dates are dates in the 40s. But they go for about $135 per $10 worth on ebay in worn condition.
