Posted by junkgurl in Junk Silver Coin FAQ, tags: 1948, coin, Mexican, much, this, worthQuestion by spcexcel: how much is this 1948 Mexican coin worth?
on the front says: cinco pesos, 30 gramos ley 0.900.m 1948
back says: estados unidos mexicanos.
basically, it is a 1948 coin of 30 grams pure silver.
also, based on an answer i received , ... i'm not just asking the value of silver - that's a set market value. i mean the value of this as a collectible. it's much more valuable than the price of the silver. i also have an Olympic year one, th eyear the Olympics was in mexico city.

Depending where you go will determine the price. If it says 0.900 it is not pure silver and does have a slight amount of other metal. Right now an ounce is worth about .00. Convert 1 ounce to grams and you should be close to actual cost of the silver, but the coin in good condition may or may not bring you more $$$

The reason some one gave you silver value is most world coins are worth just that in circulated grades and some in mint state. That is they have no collector value. Silver is far from a set market value. Now for your coin it should have the Aztec Cuauhtemoc on one side and the seal of Mexico on the other. It is .900 silver and total weight is 30.00 grams. The actual silver weight is .8681 oz. troy. There are two of this type 1947 which is the scarer date and 1948 which has a mintage of 26,740,000. It sells for around $14-$15 in mint state. More if in real high grade mint state add a few more dollars. Dealers pay at least 40% less. Values from ads in WCN
