I have sold silver coins successfully on Ebay.
Check Ebay to see how much that coin is going for, and the condition etc......
You WILL find the value there.

Since I do not know what type of 1888 coin you have, here is a site for you to do some research.

Their is usually a coin retail trader buyer of old coins in the phone book for your city. . You would have to know more–mint marks—quality—usually the library has those books. If he took it to a coin shop he got $5-10 reguardless of the worth as a collectable. You need to know what kind of coin–silver dollar–gold coin—dime–what was it??? No rush on the answer as the coin is gone forever.
What denomination Coin ?Dime ,Quarter ,Half,or Dollar ?
What kind of condition is it in ?
Go to the library or a coin club and look it up on an up to date Red book .(A Guide Book of United States Coins .
A lot of silver coins were minted in 1888 and no one can help you, with out knowing what country it was from and what denomination it was.
