Question by Rufus B: I recently discovered an old Mexican coin. My mother and I want to know its value. peso 2000 coin with ano?
I was hoping a coin buff could tell me if this coin is worth anything. It is a 2000 peso coin. It has "ano" inscribed on it instead of "diez pesos" . There is an aztec sun on one of its sides and an eagle holding a snake. Thank you in advance .

Question by rockparadox420: where is the best place to buy 90% silver coin bags besides ebay?
I want to buy some of the older coins in bulk for my collection and dont want to deal with ebay.
Best answer:
Answer by Taiping EBay would not be the best place anyway. The coins may be culls which are low grade circulated coins that are not collectibles and have less silver due to wear. Finding a good dealer on line is a hit and miss thing unless one has done mail order with them before. With silver as high as it is one is not really going to get any deals at least on the silver part. It is true some collector coins that do not have a high collector value may head for the melting pot. Such coins are late date low grade, walking liberty 1/2's, as well as maybe the silver 1982 Washington 1/2 commemorative. I would try a couple of local coin dealers. Remember only the common older coins will be there not early ones for there vaules are still high enough, at least for now.

Question by Eldorado: Silver Junk Coin as an investment?
Is 90% silver junk coin a viable option to invest in PM in comparison to PM ETF and Bullion?
Best answer:
Answer by Luke If you want to get the easiest silver possible, buy the etf, so you can buy at spot with no shipping costs. both bullion and junk silver can be help personally at your house, so if you like the security of that or believe in a doomsday scenario I would buy physical silver. bullion is the most expensive way to buy, but it is in easy increments and it is simple to know what you are getting. If you want to spend the time buy the 90% silver and research, sometimes it sells for above and sometimes below spot, some 90% also has numismatic value are value for just the coin in no relation to the silver value.

Walking Liberty Half Dollar Coin (1945)
Best answer:
Answer by Peter Except for coins that contain silver or gold, the value of the coin is mostly determined by rarity and condition. Your mercury dime is maybe worth a dollar, your walking liberty may be 5 dollars. If they are in mint consition they may be worth more. Your 1964 Kennedy half is 90% silver and worth maybe 3-4 dollars.
The 1896 and 1907 pennies are worth 1 to five dollars most likely. Can you read the letters of Liberty in the headband? Buffalo nickle mayby .50, 1903 Liberty nickle maybe a dollar (can you read Liberty in the headband?).
The Canadian is worth face value. The 1971Mexican peso might be 10% silver. I have no clue on the rest.

Question by spcexcel: how much is this 1948 Mexican coin worth?
on the front says: cinco pesos, 30 gramos ley 0.900.m 1948
back says: estados unidos mexicanos.
basically, it is a 1948 coin of 30 grams pure silver.
also, based on an answer i received , ... i'm not just asking the value of silver - that's a set market value. i mean the value of this as a collectible. it's much more valuable than the price of the silver. i also have an Olympic year one, th eyear the Olympics was in mexico city.
Best answer:
Answer by response2debt Depending where you go will determine the price. If it says 0.900 it is not pure silver and does have a slight amount of other metal. Right now an ounce is worth about .00. Convert 1 ounce to grams and you should be close to actual cost of the silver, but the coin in good condition may or may not bring you more $$$

Question by Gary: what is sterling silver compared to junk coin silver?
how would you do the math to sell junk silver?
Best answer:
Answer by I. B. Zoxx Sterling silver is, by definition, 92.5% fine silver by weight..
US 1964 and earlier silver 10, 25, 50 cent and coins are 90% silver by weight.. For silver coins of other countries, you would have to look it up (the Standard Catalog of World Coins, published by Krause Publications, is the most commonly used reference for this).
For sterling, calculate 92.5% of the total weight to get the pure silver weight. One troy ounce is 31.1 grams, and this morning's silver quote is .06 per troy ounce.
For US coins, use 90% in place of 92.5%
For British coins, they were sterling until 1922 and 50% silver until 1947. UK Circulating coins dated 1947 and later contain no silver.
