Question by sammy g: does anyone know anything about a 1994 half pound siver eagle coin?
it says it is from the national collectors mint but when i called them they had no info on it and i cant find the paper that came with it, is it a troy half pound or a half pound ? is it real? it says .999 pure silver, thank you
Best answer:
Answer by Taiping Take it to a coin dealer or jeweler and have it weighed. If the weight is right them it is a great possibility it is real. I am surprised the National Collectors Mint is still around. They sold silver medals like you have at such high costs that the buyers would never recoup their loss for 50 years. Weigh it and if it is on, it is real. There were quite a few large silver pieces made in the 1990's up to and after 2000.

Question by double B: Jenny has 32 coins worth P128. Some are 5 pesos coin & the rest are 1 peso. How many of each coins she has?
Thank u!
Best answer:
Answer by jenh42002 Let x = number of 5P coins, and y = number of 1P coins.
Then x+y=32, and 5x+1y=128
From the first equation, y = 32-x. Substituting that into the second eqn., you get: 5x + 32 - x = 128
This simplifies to 4x + 32 = 128
4x = 96
x = 24
Since x+y = 32, then y = 8.
So there are 24 5P coins, and 8 1 Peso coins.

Best answer:
Answer by Peter Except for coins that contain silver or gold, the value of the coin is mostly determined by rarity and condition. Your mercury dime is maybe worth a dollar, your walking liberty may be 5 dollars. If they are in mint consition they may be worth more. Your 1964 Kennedy half is 90% silver and worth maybe 3-4 dollars.
The 1896 and 1907 pennies are worth 1 to five dollars most likely. Can you read the letters of Liberty in the headband? Buffalo nickle mayby .50, 1903 Liberty nickle maybe a dollar (can you read Liberty in the headband?).
The Canadian is worth face value. The 1971Mexican peso might be 10% silver. I have no clue on the rest.

A silver coin is 0.01 cm thick and has radius of 1.50 cm at 20 Celsius. Calculate the change in its
a. Thickness
b. Area
c. Volume
d. Density
When its temperature is increase to 70 degree Celsius. Density of silver at 20 degree Celsius is 10.5 per g cc. ( Coefficient of Linear Thermal expansion of silver is 19 x 10^6/Celsius)
Please help me
Thankyou
Best answer:
Answer by billrussell42 linear thermal expansion coef silver is 18e-6 per C
∆L/L = α∆T
∆A/A = 2α∆T
∆V/V = 3α∆T
thickness:
.01 cm = 0.1 mm = 100 µm
NO coin is that thin, you must have copied it wrong. I'll do the calc, you will have to modify it.
∆L = αL∆T = 18e-6 x 50 x 100 = 0.09 µm or 90 nm
Area or volume, calculate the area or volume, and apply one of the above equations
Change in density is the same as change in volume, as the mass is constant.

Question by spcexcel: how much is this 1948 Mexican coin worth?
on the front says: cinco pesos, 30 gramos ley 0.900.m 1948
back says: estados unidos mexicanos.
basically, it is a 1948 coin of 30 grams pure silver.
also, based on an answer i received , ... i'm not just asking the value of silver - that's a set market value. i mean the value of this as a collectible. it's much more valuable than the price of the silver. i also have an Olympic year one, th eyear the Olympics was in mexico city.
Best answer:
Answer by response2debt Depending where you go will determine the price. If it says 0.900 it is not pure silver and does have a slight amount of other metal. Right now an ounce is worth about .00. Convert 1 ounce to grams and you should be close to actual cost of the silver, but the coin in good condition may or may not bring you more $$$

Answer by Jonathan D I don't have the answer, but I would suggest that you go to this site- The IPL Refdesk (link below). This goes to students studying to be reference librarians and they can probably help you much better than those here (here we basically use yahoo or google).
As a reference librarian myself (though I unfortunately don't work in a large library at the moment) my professional opinion is that this question is a lot more likely to be answered from a print source than from the Internet, and I'll explain why if you're interested:
Short version: if it's both obscure [at least to English speakers] and it happened more than 10 years ago, it's not that likely to be on the Internet. (Always remember the Internet is the size of an ocean but the depth of a pond on most issues.) Since the coin is from 1975 and a topic few people are interested in there just is not a lot about it online.
However, there should be lots more about it in the print materials of a large reference library as they would have numismatic encyclopedias, almanacs, and newsreels from around that time. If you have access to a large public or college library, look at the 1975 index for the New York Times and there will probably be an article- ask the librarian for help if you don't know how to do this as I guarantee you he or she will know what you're asking for. There probably won't be anything in the index under 5 peso coin of course, but look under FERDINAND MARCOS and COINS-International and other relevant words. If they can't find it there, go to the biography section of the library and look in the index of biographies of Ferdinand Marcos for "coinage", or if they have no bios of Marcos look in the most recent book on the Philippines or in books on World Currency.
Sorry I can't help more, but below is a link you should use to ask your question.

Question by Eldorado: Silver Junk Coin as an investment?
Is 90% silver junk coin a viable option to invest in PM in comparison to PM ETF and Bullion?
Best answer:
Answer by Luke If you want to get the easiest silver possible, buy the etf, so you can buy at spot with no shipping costs. both bullion and junk silver can be help personally at your house, so if you like the security of that or believe in a doomsday scenario I would buy physical silver. bullion is the most expensive way to buy, but it is in easy increments and it is simple to know what you are getting. If you want to spend the time buy the 90% silver and research, sometimes it sells for above and sometimes below spot, some 90% also has numismatic value are value for just the coin in no relation to the silver value.

Best answer:
Answer by Taiping Some one made it into a token of some kind, it might be a name and the numbers could mean all most anything. It has no value as a collectible. It is considered a damaged coin. Even if it was not damaged dealers sell them for .25 in their world coin boxes. You may never find out why it was made or by whom.
