Question by tony: what US silver dollar coins were made 1900. I have one coin from 1900 and can't figure out the name of coin?
I have one coin from 1900 and can't figure out the name of the coin, It is a silver dollar. In front of coin it says liberty in god we trust and has the date 1900. And has a women standing up with her hand out. And in back of coin it says United states of America. 1 oz fine silver one dollar, I know for sure is is not a Morgan dollar.

It sounds like a commemorative coin - legal tender but not standard issue - because standard issue would not bear the inscription "1 oz fine silver".

Question by dart6500: If the US dollar crashes is it smart to have junk pre 1964 silver dimes (90% sliver) worth each currently?
My basic concern is that if the dollar crashes and we go to a trading system temporarily, how would the lay person know the value of silver if technology shuts down do to the crash? Would it be a smart investment?
thanks for your help

First off this did not even happen in the great depression or any of the great panics in the 1800's.

You are right that no one would know how much any of this stuff is worth. If we had a nuclear war or something and had to go back to a barter economy it would be the people that own food or generators or fuel or medicine that would be rich. I doubt silver or gold would be very useful.

Question by cherokee: silver dollar?
I found an 1882 silver dollar in excellent cond. in the sands of a wash in the Az. desert and it has no mint mark. I did find out that means it was minted in Philadelphia but how can I find out how much it is worth? The prices of these coins are so different.

Best answer:

Answer by bootsjeansnpearls
that is something you need to have looked at by a professional. The price will be determined by whomever wants to buy it actually. They can give you a good estimate but it will ahve more value to a collector of that coin than the general public.

Question by s s: does ,10,20,50 silver coin pesos &100 gold coin peso have any us dollar value?

Best answer:

Answer by I. B. Zoxx
Mexico coins dated 1991 and earlier are no longer redeemable. Mexico remonetized in 1993, and 1000 old pesos became 1 new (current) peso.

Here is a link to the Banco de Mexico web site, with photos of obsolete coins:

Question by Fish Thing: Two silver dollars and one gold dollar~ How much are these coins worth?
I have two silver dollars and one gold dollar. The date on one silver dollar is 1985, and it has no ridges on the side. The other is dated 1992, and it does have ridges. The gold dollar is dated 2000 and has no ridges. Please tell me how much these coins are worth. Thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by Taiping
There were no silver dollars made in 1985 and only the 1992 Columbus Quincentenary dollar was made that year with Columbus on it. The gold color dollar from 2000 has to be a Sacagawea dollar and it is not made of gold but manganese brass. It is common with a mintage of 767,140,000 from the Philly mint and 518,916,000 from the Denver mint. The 1985 item may be a token of some kind as well as the 1992 if it is not what I mentioned above. Would need to know what is on both sides of the items to help further.

Question by waratthedoor: Silver dollar?
What is more likely to retain its value and gain in value?

A Silver Dollar or a Dollars worth of silver

Best answer:

Answer by Jennifer W
A silver dollar. Silver isn't worth very much on it's own. It's one of the cheapest metals actually. Silver dollars however can gain value as they age in terms of being collectors items.

Question by Old Gamer 56: Is the American government and the American dollar about to collapse?
I'm not interested in bashing the GOP or Obama (at the moment.) I just wonder if this could be happening. I am reading Liberation, a speculative novel by Slattery, and it's spooky in it's accuracy.
Our economy is in the toilet, the Asian markets, heavily invested in the US, are questioning the validity of the the American dollar, unemployment is rising...will there come a day when no one answers if you call 911?
Should I buy junk silver and a 3 month supply of food and water? Place barbed wire around the perimeter of the condo and buy an assault rifle? Move to Montana? Or should I seek the services of a professional therapist?
I'm half serious. Could the dollar collapse, and then what happens?

Question by Jerome Watson: Why do people go along with the myth the dollar is falling when it is rising?
Gold is also up so this leads me to conclude the real problem is the IMF. The G20 was really trying prop it up because if the IMF goes under so does the WTO. If they dollar, gold, and silver are all going the capitol reserve system is being out played by the hard asset system. This a result of the outsource and borrow economics. = Send away industry to build capitol and then borrow to put money down to import junk!

Best answer:

Answer by Mr. Sandman
Dollars fall slowly because they're so light. They only tend to rise in an updraft.
