Question by purplesparklez: Is there such a thing as a real 1943 silver wheat penny? Are wheat pennies from 1934 to 1958 worth anything?
I recieved a wheat penny collection as a gift a long time ago. They are dated 1934 to 1958. The 1943 penny is silver colored. Is the silver penny real, or a fake? What are the other pennies worth?

Question by Sk8t3rgurl: When did they stop making silver pennies?
I found a penny its silver i thought it was really cool so i looked it up to see how much it was worth. ended up only being worth about 15 cents. but it says they made silver pennies in 1943 bc they ran out of copper. well this penny says 1984... im a bit confused.
Best answer:
Answer by sandra_panda I found this answer on wiki.answers.com:
There are no 1984 pennies made from steel -- they were made from a zinc core with a thin outer copper layer. So you have a penny that either is missing its copper layer (worth a couple dollars) or one that has been plated by somebody with zinc, silver, or some other similar colored metal (no collector value).
If your penny was made of steel, it would stick to a magnet -- try it!
What do you think? Answer below!

Question by Dave: Silver Wheat Pennies & Indian Head Penny?
~~I do not know the exact category i should put this question into so if anyone would give me some guidance with that it would be extremely helpful.~~
I have recently come across four rolls of Silver Wheat Pennies (so a total of 200) all dating around the 1930's. I have never heard of Silver Wheat Pennies and was wondering if someone would possibly know what the exact value for these would be. As far as i can tell they are not chemically changed to simply appear silver, because they also have a different texture and they seem to stay cool to the touch longer than normal pennies.
Also, i have found a single Indian Head Penny that is dated 1900, if someone could let me know the value of this penny as well it would be extremely helpful.
Thank you for your help.
~D

Answer by swingkid Actually there are no silver pennies; however during 1943 they made pennies from steel.
Depending on the condition and where they were minted, they could be worth as much as .50 each. Usually if they have been in circulation, they may only be worth about .25 each.
