Question by -"Artii. !": How much would a 1943 Silver-looking penny cost right now in 2010?
I have a 67 year old penny and I was wondering how much it cost since it's so old.

Best answer:

Answer by fatboysdaddy
This steel clad penny is worth about $.15 to about .00.
If it has been clean then it is worth less. I have about 50 of them.
Now if you had one of the very few copper 1943 pennies then you are talking about lots of money. Over ,000.00 for it.

Question by pestina182: Is my silver penny worth more than I think?
I recently found a 1943 "silver" penny. The United States was short on copper because of the war and resorted to making zinc-covered steel pennies. I know of people that discovered copper pennies from this same year. These were accidentally cast in copper and are extremely rare. My penny, although silver-colored, seems to have some traces of copper mixed in. It is magnetic, suggesting that it is made of steel and zinc, but what about the bits of copper color showing through? Is this just many years taking a toll on the steel and zinc, or is my penny worth more than I think?

Question by jsmeat92: How much does a silver penny cost?
I would like to know how much one silver penny would sell for

Best answer:

Answer by neoplop
What you have is a 1943 steel cent. During World War II, copper was needed to make shell casings for bullets. In order to conserve copper for the war effort, the government minted pennies in steel-coated zinc. They only did it for one year because the public complained about the new pennies- they were easily confused with dimes in change. They are relatively common so only ones that are in excellent condition are worth much; most are worth no more than 15 to 25 cents.

Question by dreamqueen9120: I have a 1976 silver penny, is it rare or not?
I have a 1976 silver penny. It looks just like a regular penny, but being silver and a bit thicker then a regular copper one. It has no P or D or even S on it. I've compared it to a normal copper one from 1976 and it's just missing the letter. Any one have any ideas?

Best answer:

Answer by Daniel H
The silver ones were made in the mid-40s, because they used copper for bullets during the war. I would say it is very valuable.

Question by xD: How much is an a 1943 Silver Penny worth?

Best answer:

Answer by Scott Stevenson
It's not actually silver, it's made out of steel that was coated in zinc.

It's going to depend on the condition. Unless it has absolutely no wear on it, it might bring you a dollar or so from a dealer, who might turn around and sell it for a couple of bucks.

A lot of the steel cents were "replated" after they left the mint--the original plating wasn't that great, and as the zinc wore away, they began to rust. Replated cents are usually easy to spot, because they're unnaturally shiny.

Question by Dave: Silver Wheat Pennies & Indian Head Penny?
~~I do not know the exact category i should put this question into so if anyone would give me some guidance with that it would be extremely helpful.~~
I have recently come across four rolls of Silver Wheat Pennies (so a total of 200) all dating around the 1930's. I have never heard of Silver Wheat Pennies and was wondering if someone would possibly know what the exact value for these would be. As far as i can tell they are not chemically changed to simply appear silver, because they also have a different texture and they seem to stay cool to the touch longer than normal pennies.

Also, i have found a single Indian Head Penny that is dated 1900, if someone could let me know the value of this penny as well it would be extremely helpful.
Thank you for your help.
~D

Actually there are no silver pennies; however during 1943 they made pennies from steel.

Depending on the condition and where they were minted, they could be worth as much as .50 each. Usually if they have been in circulation, they may only be worth about .25 each.
