Question by Ms. Chirps: What is a silver penny worth that is dated 1972?
I have a silver penny worth that is dated 1972. Does anybody know how much it is worth and/or if they can help me where to find it's value. Were there any unintentionally made that went into circulation? Thanks!

Question by theresa: I need to know the value of some silver half dollars and quarters, or a website to find out!?
I have a variety of silver half dollars and quarters. 1957,1961,1963,1964,1965,1966, and 1968 half dollars. And also, 1946,1953,1962,1963,1964 quarters all silver. Are they worth anything, or can you tell me a website to find out if they are or not? Thanks for your time!

Best answer:

Answer by BD in NM
First the 1965, 1966 and 1968 half dollars are only 40% silver. The rest of your items are standard issue 90% silver coins. There is nothing rare or special about your dates, all are common. There is no mention of the condition of the coins so I am going to assume they are in average circulated condition. In that condition they have more value for their silver than any collector value. Figure 8 times face value for the 90% stuff maybe 2 or 3 times face for the 40% silver.

Sorry, not a whole lot of value but a nice start on a collection.

Question by 2keepucool: When did silver (pre-1965) coins disappear from circulation. Im curious, i wasn't born during that era.?
Did silver coins (dimes, quarters, half dollars) go away instantly the moment clad coins came out? Did silver coins remain in circulation for a few more years ie: 1966, 67, 68, 69? Im curious, i collected coins for nearly 12 years. I wasn't born during the 60's or even 70's. I just want to know :)

In the early 1970's the price of silver went to an all time high when Nixon took gold and silver off the money standard. A lot of people melted their silver coins and sold the silver.

Question by fisher_cal: how much actual silver in three junk silver dollars in troy ounces?

Best answer:

Answer by John
The USA stopped putting silver in coins in 1964. There was some silver in half dollars a few years after that. I think up to 1970. Coins 1964 and older are worth 10 to 11 times the face value ( a dime would be worth . to .10). The half dollars 1965to 1970 are worth about . or so each.

Question by bradzb: How many Silver Dollars in a 75 gallon tank?
I've been cycling a 75 gallon tank now for a month and everything is at a good level for dollars. I check it every other day. Currently have five mollies in the tank to help with cycling, no deaths and everything is good.
Looking at getting some silver dollars this coming weekend and the question is how many. Thinking of doing 8-10 sound good?
Also, thinking about going with some freshwater shrimp in the future, feasible or no?

Question by hiraan: Silver Dollars?!!?
When I brought my Silver Dollars they're fine. After about one month they've started a fight actually I'm not sure if it's a fight or not because it didn't appear that they're harming each other, they more likely to be chasing each other very fast!. At first, I thought they're playing, but yesterday I saw one of them is hiding!
Is there any possibility they'd fight, if so what should I do?
Please help I've been told that SilverDollars prefer to live with their fellows, I'm confused!.
I feed them twice a day(an amount which can be eaten in one minute). Recently, they tend to not eat when I feed them the second time!.
I know, the tank space is enough there's plants(false), I've some wood decoration. Everything is prepared!.

Silver Dollars do prefer being in groups of 2 or more. I would say that they are just having fun with each other. You are feeding them enough and keeping the tank clean right? Keep an eye on them, but I would say if they have been in the tank for 1 month then started doing this that they are just playing.

Question by pestina182: Is my silver penny worth more than I think?
I recently found a 1943 "silver" penny. The United States was short on copper because of the war and resorted to making zinc-covered steel pennies. I know of people that discovered copper pennies from this same year. These were accidentally cast in copper and are extremely rare. My penny, although silver-colored, seems to have some traces of copper mixed in. It is magnetic, suggesting that it is made of steel and zinc, but what about the bits of copper color showing through? Is this just many years taking a toll on the steel and zinc, or is my penny worth more than I think?

Question by flipperr: Silver coins?
What holds more value for silver coins, coins that are new or old coins? I have a set of both old and new but I want to know which one hold more value.

Also is the value of silver based on the "ounce" or "type of coin" that goes into circulation?

Best answer:

Answer by Taiping
It depends on which is the rarest and the grade of the coin. There are no circulating silver coins. The silver value is far more than face. Most countries in the mid 1960 stopped striking silver coinage for general circulation. When it come to bullion coins such as the silver eagle with a face value of it sells for at least 18 to 20 times that, then it is the one ounce of silver in it unless it happens to be a low mintage or special one, that had few minted. Another thing what do you mean by old, old is the 1800's and before.
