Question by tony: what US silver dollar coins were made 1900. I have one coin from 1900 and can't figure out the name of coin?
I have one coin from 1900 and can't figure out the name of the coin, It is a silver dollar. In front of coin it says liberty in god we trust and has the date 1900. And has a women standing up with her hand out. And in back of coin it says United states of America. 1 oz fine silver one dollar, I know for sure is is not a Morgan dollar.

Answer by jabbotuk
It sounds like a commemorative coin - legal tender but not standard issue - because standard issue would not bear the inscription "1 oz fine silver".

Question by sportin wood: How to turn junk silver into good casting grain for later use?
I have alot of scrap silver that I want to melt into casting grain..I have a furnace that I have melted silver in before but I cant seem to get the nice small grains for ease of melting later..I also have some .999 fine that I want to turn into sterling casting grain..Any help would be great
Thanks

Answer by tigris
generally I don't think it's worth the bother. The problem is that your sterling silver is an alloy, and whenever you melt it, some of the metal with a lower melting point vaporizes. Repeated melting and casting doesn't really improve the metal.
I never bothered to convert scrap metal in an extra step into casting grain. But out of curiosity I looked it up and it's apparently done by pouring molten metal into a large bucket of water. Sounds not entirely safe, but I guess if the quantity of the metal used at one time isn't too great it shouldn't be too bad if you keep your head out of the hot steam and wear a faceshield.

Not sure about turning fine silver into sterling silver, because I think there are quite a number of different alloys of sterling silver which have different additives beside copper. If you really want to try that I would search through some books for professional jewelers. I think it will require some reading for if you want to use it for anything you want to sell you have to make sure you still have the required silver content.

Question by dart6500: If the US dollar crashes is it smart to have junk pre 1964 silver dimes (90% sliver) worth each currently?
My basic concern is that if the dollar crashes and we go to a trading system temporarily, how would the lay person know the value of silver if technology shuts down do to the crash? Would it be a smart investment?
thanks for your help

Answer by glenn
First off this did not even happen in the great depression or any of the great panics in the 1800's.

You are right that no one would know how much any of this stuff is worth. If we had a nuclear war or something and had to go back to a barter economy it would be the people that own food or generators or fuel or medicine that would be rich. I doubt silver or gold would be very useful.

Question by Barbara: where can I sale silver coins for the value of silver?

Best answer:

Answer by I'mForPeace
If you have real silver coins, you would be fare better off financially to sell them as coins to a collector or to a coin shop.

Few coins have silver in them. You must go back to some pretty old coins for silver.

So, if yu have silver coins, sell them as coins!

Question by Sonata: Anyone have some good Pokemon Soul Silver / Heart Gold training advice (for Poke around level 50+)?
Okay so I got all 16 badges and I'm stuck where to train. My strongest Pokemon is a level 54 Weaville. He's always been my strongest and my pokemon have always been a lot lower leveled then my opponents, even random trainers on the streets! Even so I've never had a real problem battling an opponent and I even made sure to deposit my Pokemon so I have the same amount as a gym leader does when I battle them. I even managed to defeat 3 of Red's Pokemon (mainly 'cause of items). I battled every trainer (I think) and I'm stuck where I can train. I need to raise a couple levels before I do a double battle with my rival against Lance and Clair or challenge Red again. I'm kinda shocked that my Pokemon are so much lower leveled than my opponents', especially since half of them were traded! Sorry to monologue, but getting to the point I need to know a good place to train. I can't use the elite four because they're too strong now and take too long.
Here's my current team:

Weavile: -traded- (hatched from Pearl version, traded for my Cyndaquil as soon as I could trade on SS. Made sure levels were equal) Level 54. Ice Punch, Night Slash, Cut, (4th attack is gonna be Brick Break or Swords Dance whenever I find the TMs) *never had a problem leveling up*

Steelix: Level 52 Earthquake, Rock Climb, Screech, Rock Smash (I know it sucks but I need that HM) *takes forever to raise*

Raichu: -traded- Level 53 Thunderbolt, Fly, Flash, Headbutt

Vaporeon: Level 52 Surf, Whirlpool, Shadow Ball (very weak for some reason), Auora Beam

Dragonair (shiny :> ): -traded- Level 51 Waterfall, Dragon Rush, Dragon Dance, Headbutt *want her to stay a Dragonair without evolving*

Aipom (gonna evolve soon): Level 49 Last Resort, Strength, Screech, Double Hit (his attacks stink right now, gonna teach him the 3 elemental punches)

I also have other pokemon on standby that I raised for a while then stopped inlcuding:
Level 41: (shiny gamestop) Raichu, Ledian (stunk in battle), Dragonair (used before shiny), Togekiss
Level 50: Luxray

GIVE ME TRAINING ADVICE PLEASE :D

Answer by Doomsday King
For a this team I recommend training at Mt. Silver. There are lvl 49-51 pokemon in there. Also bring a lot of and just use an escape rope do get out anytime or just use the TM move Dig. I think you're pokemon are a good match for these pokemon. (Hint: Moltres and Pkmn Trainer Red is in there)

These links should be somewhat helpful to you. Mexican currency made prior to 1993 is no longer legal tender, but it does have collector value. The Canadian half dollars are not worth much more than silver melt value. I hope that helps.
